Currently I am on family vacation in Virginia Beach, VA, and it’s marvelous. Our entire family on my dad’s side (grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) all stay in this big house on the beach we rent for the week. We’ve done it every year for 7 or 8 years now, and we all love coming here. I’m sitting at a table on one of our back decks. The sun is shining down, the wind is blowing around me, below I can see some of my cousins splashing around in the pool, and to my right, past the golden sand and crashing white waves, the vast Atlantic stretches for ever and ever in blue glory. Everything is nearly perfect.
It’s going to be a great week.

Also on a good note, I kicked my caffeine habit. Or, I’m in the process of kicking it. This is a very good thing, because I don’t remember the last time I went a DAY without some source of caffiene. I had just gotten used to the fact that if I didn’t get some in my system by lunch I’d have to deal with the consequences.
I went cold turkey several days ago, so I haven’t had it in my system for nearly a week now and I’ve had to pop Advil pretty often to keep back the headaches. Today’s the first day I haven’t had to take any Advil, and my headahces are only slight and seldom, so that’s a good sign. I figure I needed to get off the stuff (caffeine that is) because A)I’ll be in Africa for a month and I highly doubt there are Coke machines on every corner, and B)Mostly, it just plain isn’t good for you (especially when you’re an addict).

Another source of smiles: I’ve nearly raised enough to pay for my trip to Ghana. I mean I’m really, really close, which is an awesome amazing thing and God is absolutely way too good to me. I can’t wait to see what this trip has in store. Expect a long blog entry when I get back.
Two FAQ’s. The trip is July 11th to August 12th, and Ghana is in the southern tip of western Africa.
